The respectable Freyr people regard their Tinerian neighbourssavages, libertines and mad magicianswith fear and contempt. Princess Marit of Freyr, nicknamed Froglet, is but a pale shadow of her beautiful sister, yet it is she who must marry the Sultan of Tineria and put an end to centuries of enmity. Prince Emris is her hapless younger brother, whom the whole country blames for the kings death. On her way to meet her bridegroom, Marit is attacked, and it is Emris who must save her. However, instead of his sister, he manages to rescue a Tinerian magician from the shipwreck, a man who will make the prince question everything he once believed in.
